From name to verified case

    Search the court

    Find the Sacramento County criminal case and case number using the current Sacramento Superior Court Criminal Case Portal, launched August 10, 2026. Search by party name or case number. The portal supplies limited case information; cases from before that launch may lack digitized documents, so an absent online document is not proof that the file does not exist.

    Confirm identifiers

    Match name, dates and court information before attributing a case.

    Request documents if needed

    Use the criminal records unit when a docket summary is not enough. With a case number, complete CR-278C and identify the defendant, documents and whether you need certified copies. Without a case number, submit CR-278A for a $15-per-name search; attach CR-278A-1 for multiple names and CR-278C if copies are also wanted. Court staff research covers Sacramento County cases from 1989 onward. For older cases, the court points readers to public microfiche in its Criminal Records Unit.

    Submit the copy/name-search forms and applicable payment by email to [email protected], by mail or in person to Criminal Records Unit, 500 G Street, 2nd floor, Sacramento, CA 95814. Mailed copy requests should include a self-addressed stamped envelope; otherwise postage is charged. Ordinary copies are $0.50 per page. Use the court’s current payment instructions; public fax requests are not accepted.

    Confirm certified-copy pricing with Criminal Records before paying: the current webpage lists $40 per certification plus $1 per page, but the linked CR-278C form lists $40 per case plus $0.50 per page. Those instructions disagree on both the page charge and certification unit, so this guide does not quote a verified certified-copy total.
